What was the initial appeal of Dream Drive?

I would like to build my own campervan in the future, and the most attractive thing about working at Dream Drive is that I get to learn the entire campervan production process. In my role as part of the electronics team, I primarily focus on constructing user-friendly battery systems and installing them inside the vehicles. During breaks, I observe the furniture and interior crafting process, actively ask questions, and learn to enhance my overall manufacturing knowledge. Moreover, as a cultural aspect of the team, there's a mindset of not settling with "good enough" and constantly seeking improvements. I feel that this is the secret behind elevating the quality of Dream Drive's campervans.

What made you decide to join Dream Drive?

Originally, I had built a career as a carpenter and enjoyed camping as a hobby. While watching YouTube videos of folks engaging in van life and DIY campervan projects, I stumbled upon Dream Drive. Intrigued by their approach and products, I spontaneously applied for a job. During the interview, I got to see the actual workspace and was impressed by the strong teamwork, open-mindedness towards innovative techniques and knowledge, and the culture that prioritizes work-life balance, which convinced me to join.

How do you feel about working at Dream Drive?

I remember a very positive gap in the workflow with clear team roles and defined direction. The environment also encouraged continual product development where we are able to push the boundaries and try new things. At first, I was worried about working in a global company, but in fact, there are many fluent Japanese-speaking staff in the team, and my anxiousness quickly disappeared. The moment I felt that I was part of a global company was when team members called each other by their first names, unlike traditional Japanese companies where that rarely happens.

What is the most interesting aspect of your responsibilities?

It's about skillfully wiring the crucial component of everyday life, electricity, to ensure smooth operation. Any misstep could lead to malfunctions, so I work cautiously until the inspection is done. After the floor, walls, and furniture are in place, I install the lights and switches, connecting them to the battery. I love the feeling when I flip the switch for the first time after installation. It feels like I gave the van it's first breath of life.

What are your future challenges?

As a electronics specialist, after mastering the various tasks, I've finally earned the trust to handle responsibilities independently. Currently, I'm embracing the challenge of mentoring newly joined colleagues, striving to enhance what I've been taught by updating and conveying it in a clear and memorable manner.

Looking ahead, my future challenge involves broadening the scope of campervan usage and honing my skills to propose innovative electrical systems. Additionally, with the team expanding, I aim to contribute to overall operational efficiency by taking on tasks such as managing schedules from a broader perspective.
