What are the differences between Dream Drive Campervans and other campervans? 

We use Toyota Hiace as a basic vehicle. For the KUMA Q, we use a Toyota Hiace super long, and for the TAMA we use a Toyota Hiace standard body / Standard roof・High roof. When you get a new vehicle body, you will get a makers warranty as well.

What are the base vehicles used to build a Dream Drive Campervan?

All of our products are able to drive with a normal driver's license. Even the extraordinarily spacious campervan KUMA Q allows you to drive easily for your daily life once you get used to handling it.

Do you need a special driver license to drive a campervan? 

It varies depending on the vehicle type. As an example, the KUMA Q (Toyota Hiace Super Long/2.8L diesel/4WD) has a fuel consumption of approximately 9 km per litre on public roads and 11 km per litre on motorways.

Both KUMA Q and TAMA are registered as Class 8 vehicles, which means they are treated as standard cars on highways, and regular car tolls apply. Other discounts such as holiday discounts, ETC discounts, and late-night discounts apply to them just like regular vehicles. 

In Japan, do highway tolls differ from those for regular cars?

Voluntary insurance can be taken out in the same way as for standard passenger cars. The insurance officer will explain the policy to you on the day of delivery and you can sign up face-to-face. For more information, please feel free to contact us.

Are there any restrictions on voluntary insurance?

We offer additional options such as the Maxx Fan, FF Heater, and insect screens for napping with the back door open, which can be used even when the engine is turned off. With these options, you can comfortably use your campervan throughout all seasons with peace of mind. However, please note that the interior temperature of the campervan can be influenced by external factors. Therefore, we recommend considering accommodations in higher-altitude areas during the summer.

Is the interior of the camper comfortable? Is it hot in summer and cold in winter?

Options such as insect screen, Max fans and FF heaters are offered, all of which help to keep the interior of the van more comfortable.

I want to travel with my dog, but I am concerned about the heat in the car.

The campervan uses a sub-battery, so even if the engine is switched off, the sub-battery can be used for computer work, electricity for cooking and water supply.

Can I use interior equipment such as lights and heaters when the engine is switched off?

For Dream Drive's KUMA Q, you can operate it for approximately 24 to 32 hours without recharging from a full charge. However, once the auxiliary battery is depleted, it may take time to fully recharge, so we recommend combining methods such as pre-trip charging, charging while driving, and using external power sources. Additionally, a battery level indicator is installed in the vehicle's interior. Furthermore, we offer a Power Plus Package that includes options for solar systems and battery upgrades.

Do you need to worry about running out of battery power when using the sub-battery when parked or parked overnight?

The sub-battery system automatically recharges the battery while driving from the vehicle's main battery. The driving charge charges 100 AH in approximately 4 - 5 hours of driving.

Can solar panels be installed after delivery?

The solar panel is a convenient way that allows the sub-battery to be charged even in parking lots without power. Depending on the weather conditions, it can charge 100AH in approximately 4 to 5 hours.

How much can a solar panel charge a sub-battery?

No special maintenance is required, but if excessively dirty, wipe with water. Other maintenance is recommended in accordance with the manufacturer's instruction manuals.

Do solar panels require special maintenance?

In Dream Drive's furniture, we use water-based paint that is harmless even if children or pets accidentally come into contact with it. This paint does not contain natural solvents or volatile substances.

Is it safe for pets and children to chew and lick furniture?

You may use a portable stove, but please take care when handling flammable or combustible materials in the vehicle. If weather conditions permit, we recommend that you prepare the food in the vehicle and cook it outdoors. If you add a Power Plus package, you can comfortably use an IH stove.

The KUMA Q has an Isofix. TAMA, the child seat can be fixed using the Isofix brackets.

Check with your motor insurance company and use the road services provided. For repairs to the vehicle itself, please consult your dealer or auto mechanic. For damage to or repair of the interior, please contact the Dream Drive head office.

What should I do if my car breaks down or has an accident during a journey?

KUMAQ and TAMA are sold with number 8 registration and are inspected every two years in Japan. 

Depending on your location, number registration and weight, Dream Drive vehicles are registered as number 8 campervans; a number 8 campervan is inspected every two years and the annual car tax is approximately JPY 40,000. Other costs include insurance and weight tax.
The approximate weights of the vehicles currently on sale are as follows
TAMA: 2,100 kg ~
KUMA: 2,800 kg ~

What are the maintenance costs of a campervan?

As the base vehicle for Dream Drive is the Toyota Hiace, transforming it into a campervan doesn't significantly increase maintenance costs. However, please note that due to the added weight compared to its original state, we recommend considering checking the quality of your tyres more frequently. 

Does campervan maintenance cost more than for a normal vehicle?

No special maintenance is required, but for comfortable use, it is always a good idea to charge the external battery (charging the sub-battery) before use. For hygiene reasons, we also recommend emptying the water tank when not in use.

Can I see the campervan in person before I buy it?

Car loans from various financial institutions are available. Dream Drive dealerships also offer a selection of auto loans. For more information, please contact us.

For payment in cash:
Application fee (deposit) payment of 500,000 yen
Down payment of 70% within 2 weeks after the application deposit payment
Payment of the remaining balance one month before the campervan delivery

Generally, campervan deliveries are said to take over a year. However, at Dream Drive, the delivery timeline typically ranges from 6 months to 1 year depending on manufacturing availability.

How long does it take to deliver the vehicle?

In principle, delivery will be at the purchase store, but we also offer transportation options (self-drive or shipping).
